What is the difference between B class and C class pipe?

Both B-grade and C-grade pipelines are made of low-carbon steel pipes. There is no discernible difference in appearance, but there are some differences in material properties.
The classification of steel quality grades is mainly based on the following points

  1. For A-grade steel, impact toughness is not a required condition, and cold bending tests are only conducted when requested by the purchaser.
  2. B, C, and D levels all require an AKV value of not less than 27J, but the test temperatures for the three are different. B level requires an impact value at room temperature (25+-5 ℃).
  3. C and D levels require impact values of 0 ℃ and -20 ℃, respectively.
  4. B, C, and D levels also require passing the cold bending test. In order to meet the above performance requirements, the chemical elements of different grades of steel are slightly different. The main difference between B-grade and C-grade pipelines is their wall thickness. The wall thickness of B-grade pipelines is thicker than that of C-grade pipelines. This means that B-class pipelines are more robust and durable than C-class pipelines, making them suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature applications.
On the other hand, the wall thickness of C-grade pipelines is thinner and usually more affordable than B-grade pipelines. They are typically used for low-pressure and low-temperature applications where strength is not as critical.
Another difference between B-grade and C-grade pipelines is their weight. Due to its wall thickness, B-grade pipelines are heavier than C-grade pipelines. However, this additional weight also means that B-class pipelines are more stable and less prone to bending or buckling under pressure.
In summary, the main difference between B-grade and C-grade pipelines lies in their wall thickness and strength. Both types of pipelines have their specific purposes and applications, and the choice between them will depend on factors such as the pressure and working environment involved, as well as the project’s budget and other requirements
